Floratam is a vigorous, coarse‑textured St. Augustine variety developed for superior performance in full sun and warm climates. Originally released by University of Florida and Texas A&M University in 1973, Floratam St. Augustine is known for its broad blades, deep green color, and strong resistance to St. Augustine Decline (SAD) and other diseases. It performs best in full sun, is not shade tolerant, making it ideal for open lawns and landscapes across Central and South Texas.
This variety thrives in well‑drained soils, is moderately drought tolerant, and performs exceptionally well in hot, humid conditions, especially where salt levels may be higher, such as near the coast.
